Fibre-Optic Sensing Laboratory

The Fibre-Optic Sensing Laboratory (FOSlab) was founded within the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at ETH Zurich. Our research focuses on advancing geophysical monitoring by applying and developing fibre-optic (FO) technologies.

We explore a range of methods, including Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), Distributed Strain Sensing (DSS), Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS), and Fibre-Bragg Gratings (FBG), to better understand subsurface and environmental processes. Alongside applying these techniques in real-world environments, we also work on testing and developing novel approaches to maximize the potential of fibre-optic data for geoscience applications.
